Managed engineering students performing assembly, testing and design work. |
| 5/90 - 12/99 | Founder, Kaleva Design Inc., Berkeley, CA Inventing and product development, including analysis, design, prototyping, initial manufacturing engineering, patent writing, and project management. Performed engineering consulting, produced technical reports and patent applications. Typical projects include bicycle components, an in-line skate brake, a candle extrusion machine, a television remote control housing, and a safety syringe. |
| 6/85 - 10/89 |
Engineering Manager/Chief Engineer, Petrolphysics, Inc., San Francisco, CA Performed conceptual design of new hardware, devised and carried out testing programs, then fielded equipment for water jet drilling, primarily used for enhanced oil recovery. Designed electronics and electronics packaging, sealing systems, hydraulic motion control, and position sensing systems for a 10,000 psi, downhole environment. Invented, engineered and developed water jet nozzles, penetration control systems, coil tubing logging tools, and a directional horizontal drilling system using water jet cutting. (see attached patent list) Designed test hardware for water jet drilling of granite, tested and reported on results. Wrote for, edited and produced graphics for SBIR proposals and trade publications |
| 2/84 - 2/85 | Research Assistant, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory,
Berkeley, CA Produced single point diamond scribed samples of brittle materials, such as glass, gallium arsenide, silicon and ceramic, then measured crack propagation via scanning electron microscopy. Designed an instrument to scribe and measure scribing loads |
